Deer shed their antlers during the late winter to early spring months, typically between January and April. This natural process is influenced by factors such as age, genetics, and nutrition. As we observe the graceful movement of deer in the wild, it's fascinating to consider the remarkable phenomenon of antler shedding.#WhenDoDeerShedTheirAntlers

Photo by @daisygilardini | The best time to observe the elusive spirit bear in British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest is during the salmon run in September/October.This is when bears gather around the rivers to fish and teach their offspring how to catch salmon.Contrary to what many people think, bears are not great fishermen. Their success rate is around one-in-four, or 25%.Interestingly, studies show that spirit bears' white coat is less visible to salmon in daylight. This gives the bears a slight advantage when fishing, and raises their success rate to about one-in-three, or 30%.This slight advantage makes it easier for them to gain the fat reserves necessary for hibernation. It might also explain why the gene has not receded over time.#spiritbear #kermodebear #britishcolumbia #greatbearrainforest #conservation

Two-spotted mite feed on a wide range of economically important plant species including strawberries. They possess a sharp mouth piece which penetrates directly into plant cells and sucks out the chlorophyll, leaving a small yellow spot which is what many people use to identify if the pest is present. Picture 1 shows almost no signs of yellowing, but picture 2 is the underside of that leaf where there are 100+ Tsm present! Picture 3,4 shows a rapidly progressing infestation with increased yellowing where Tsm are taking energy directly out of the plant. So by the time the symptoms are showing it is almost too late! Picture 5 is a close up of Tsm and their natural enemy P. persimilis, which is a deep red colour. I shot a small field video here of some active predators and mites here - https://lnkd.in/g_Jm7J68

Many IPM decisions are context-dependent. I've come across different views on the premise of killing a small insect or mite pest colony, and to what degree predator/parasite activity enters into the equation.Specifically this is the Giant Whitefly #Aleurodicus dugesii. It's a common generalist, often found on ornamental and weedy, ruderal plants identifiable by their waxen filaments, larger-than-average #whitefly size, and mottled gray-white wing patterning. Only a few leaves, ~25 nymphs and 2 adults present at time of recording. The predator was a tiny, stout-bodied parasitoid wasp, maybe #Encarsia, #Idioporus, or some other similar relative that was patrolling the nymphs which they likely kill during their own larval development inside them.In what case would you:-Expend preventative effects? Spray, culling, biocontrol release-Expend no preventative effects?

This one is only 7:19 and it's from the 1980s. What fascinates me regarding cattle mutilation and the aliens who do it for genetic experimentation reasons is that over decades of studying this phenomena, there is a recurring notion of some type of heavy tri-pod that leaves depressions in the soil wherever the aliens laser the cattle. It's levitated to the cattle-site and air-dropped because there are never track marks or footprints in the soil. #HighEnergyLethal #Laser #AlienCattleMutilation #AboveTopSecret #GeneticBioSurveillance #AnimalParts #AlienRequirements #Symbiosis #NaturalResources

Red Deer males are aggressive bulls. Females give birth to a single calf in a year. They shed their antlers once they mature. Antelopes cannot shed their horns unlike deer antlers .Few of Antelopes species are Nyala, kudu, Impalas, Blackbucks, Ibex, Big horn sheep's.High protein diet containing more than 16% is required for the development of horns and antlers. Common blood collection are: 1. Ear vein ( preferable in large Antelopes ) 2 Jugular vein3. Cephalic vein4. Saphnous vein5 Medial femoral vein European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) Association of Zoos and Aquariums

"Syrphid Fly" on Maizes Aphids...Adult are pollinators, Larvae are Biological Control Agent (Predator)Hover flies, also called flower flies or syrphid flies, make up the insect family Syrphidae. As their common name suggests, they are often seen hovering or nectaring at flowers; the adults of many species feed mainly on nectar and pollen, while the larvae (maggots) eat a wide range of foods. The larvae are insectivores and prey on aphids, thrips, and other plant-sucking insects.

Happy to share our new publication in PLoS ONE on Introgression of Gibberella ear rot resistance into adapted elite maize. We demonstrated the effectiveness of the introgression of GER resistance from two European flint maize landraces, “Kemater Landmais Gelb” (KE) and “Petkuser Ferdinand Rot” (PE), into two adapted elite and GER susceptible lines. KE landrace lines used as donors were effective in improving GER resistance of the adapted elite lines. Highly resistant lines with good adaptation traits were selected.https://lnkd.in/emvP7pYT#introgression, #resistancebreeding, #maize, #gibberellaearrot, #landrace

It was an exciting day introducing our new BCA and very first predator thrips, Franklinothrips vespiformis, to the farm! Predatory thrips play a vital role as natural enemies to various pest thrips and other small arthropods, psyllid eggs, leafminer larvae, immature whiteflies, and spider mites. There are at least 16 predatory Franklinothrips species reported from tropical and subtropical regions, although F. vespiformis is the most common. Potential issues with the larger-scale commercialization of F. vespiformis have been identified as the high expense of mass raising, poor tolerance to low temperature storage, and a lack of study. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eKfmc2vc We are excited to analyze the colonization and performance of F. vespiformis with our Dipladenia flowers, Capsicum frutescens (chili pepper), alternative pollen, thrips prey, and sucrose solution! #Predatorythrips #Franklinothripsvespiformis #Naturalememies#Biocontrol#IPM#IPManagement#BiodiversityConservation#Biodiversity #Plantdiversity #Capsicumfrutescens #Chilipepper #Bankerplants #RioDipladenia
