Hi, hello can I offer you a handful off 5 Minute Spiced Pecans while you read this post?! If there was a way for me to reach through my computer screen and actually offer you a sweet, crunchy, cinnamon-y, slightly spicy pecan I would. And we would instantly be best friends!

this recipe

Did I mention that these super easy, super delicious 5 Minute Spiced Pecans that are made on a stove top?! Most spiced nuts require long time baking in the oven, like 1 hour long time. Guys, we must not wait so long for spiced nuts! Literally all you do is heat a non stick skillet on medium high heat. Then you add all the ingredients – which BTW there are only 7 ingredients (not including salt) that I bet you already have on hand – you add those 7 simple ingredients to the hot pan. Then you stir them constantly for 5 minutes, or until all of the sugar is melted and sticky. Then pour them out onto a piece of parchment paper or silpat and spread those sticky guys apart. Then allow them to cool. That’s it! So insanely easy!

The other great thing about these 5 minute spiced pecans is that they are refined sugar free!!!! Yup, we use coconut sugar to sweeten these babies up. Which is why there are all those dark pieces on the pecans. But once hardened those dark sugary pieces are crunchy and addictive!

Here is the other fun thing about this recipe, you don’t have to use pecans. You can use almost any nut or seeds you want. You could use walnuts (Paul is allergic to walnuts waaaahhh), almonds, cashews, pepitas – or even a mixture! The decision is yours. Also your house will smell like fall and Christmas and everything comforting in life for hours!

For now, we are using pecans and I highly, highly suggest you go make some before tomorrow. You want to know why? Because I will be using them in another classic Thanksgiving side dish and I know you want to be one step ahead of the game! You rockstar you!

Spoiler alert, this side dish will be a game changer for you, I swear!

Also, one more thing about these 5 Minute Spiced Pecans. I know it’s getting super close to the big T-day here, 2 days away! But here’s the thing, if you are attending a Thanksgiving hosted by a family member or friend it would be a really awesome and thoughtful idea for you to bring something to add to their menu. These pecans would work nicely as an appetizer the host/hostess can have out in the living room in a cute bowl for their guests to munch on while the turkey is in the oven. OR you could put them in a cute jar with a bow and give them the your host as a nice gift for them to enjoy after a long day of cooking. Either way you will make someone very happy! And no one will know that it on took you 5 minutes to make them, that can be our secret!

Well of course, unless they ask for the recipe, and you direct them to this cool food blog that you know of – then the cat would be out of the bag. But I would be 100% okay with that! 😉

Description

5 minute spiced pecans are cooked on the stove top. They are sweet, crunchy, and slightly spicy. They make a great snack or appetizer to a meal. They are good in salads, yogurt, oatmeal etc. They would also make a great edible gift.

Ingredients

UnitsScale

  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • Optional: Pinch to 1/8 of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper, depending on how spicy you like it.
  • 1 cup raw pecans*
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (or can sub butter)
  • Optional: course sea salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl mix together the sugar and the spices.
  2. Heat a large nonstick skillet on medium high heat. Lay a silpat mat or a large sheet of parchment paper onto the counter right next to the pan you will be cooking the nuts in.
  3. Once the pan has heated up add all of the ingredients to the pan. Use a spatula to stir the nuts constantly for about 4 to 5 minutes, or until the sugar has melted. The sugar will still be in a sort of gloppy form, that’s okay, but there shouldn’t be any more granules of sugar.
  4. Working quickly pour the pecans onto the parchment paper/silpat mat and quickly use your spatula to spread out the nuts as much as possibly. It’s okay if some clumps remain but you don’t want them to be in a huge pile. Quickly sprinkle on the course sea salt so that it sticks onto the melted sugar. This step is completely optional.
  5. Once cooled completely use your fingers to break up the bigger clumps as needed. Transfer to an air tight container or a jar and store at room temperature for up to a month. Enjoy them as a snack or in salads, oatmeal, yogurt etc. They also make a great edible gift.

Notes

You could also sub other nuts or seeds: almonds, walnuts, cashews, pepitas etc. Or you could do a mixture.
